Exercises You Can Do At Home

More than the physical benefits, exercising provides wonders for the mind and well-being.

One of the most challenging things during the pandemic is the tendency to be sedentary. While it's tempting to slouch around at home, it's essential to be reminded of the benefits of getting your sweat on. With these easy exercises, you don't have to worry about hitting the gym or going out just to be active.

Jogging in place

Jogging in place, or jumping jacks is a simple and effective way to increase your heart rate. This is also a good beginner warm-up activity, and it's an excellent way to activate your muscles. To perform, bounce from one foot to the next. At the same time, swing the arms from one side to the other.

Sit-Ups

Sit-ups seem to be so basic, but it does a lot of wonders for the body. To start, aim to get 20 to start, and then work your way up to a 50 once you're a professional. Do not tuck under a chair or table to get the maximum effect, as that will limit your ability to get the most out of the exercise.

Planking

Hands down, planking is the best bodyweight toning move. To perform, rest your elbows and toes on the floor, keeping your back and your legs straight. Hold for one minute, then release.

Squats

This is an excellent full-body workout with many health benefits. It can be done anywhere, anytime, and is excellent for beginners. The key to performing squats correctly is to keep your knees over your ankles rather than bending them too far forward.

Pushups

The pushup is another basic yet beneficial exercise. To do this exercise, lie face down on the ground, with your hands placed directly below your shoulders. Then, lift yourself off the ground by pushing through your palms.

Lunges

These are a great way to strengthen your lower body muscles. They require no equipment, so they're a perfect option if you don't have access to a gym.

Burpees

Burpees is a great addition to any home workout routine to increase heart rate or set daily goals. From a standing position, squat down until your thighs touch the floor. Place your palms on the floor and push yourself back up. From there, kick your feet back as much as you can while keeping them as far as you can from your body. As soon as your foot lands, jump it back towards your hands. Then jump up into the air as high as you can—land and immediately squat to go into the next repetition.

Why Exercise?

The benefits of exercising are numerous: it tones muscles throughout the entire body; it's a great core workout that works every muscle in your body, and it burns calories at an average rate of about 200 per minute. Beyond the physical, here are other benefits why you should exercise despite staying at home:

It Stimulates The Mind

From the mind to the body, exercise stimulates every part of our being. Exercising causes the body to make chemicals to help a person feel good.

Better Sleep

Since oxygen flows to blood vessels easily through exercise, it can, no doubt, help people sleep better. Because of this, people who exercise tend to have a longer and better rest.

Sense of satisfaction

Exercise can give people a real sense of accomplishment and pride at having an achievement. When exercising, you don’t only feel good about yourself–you also feel motivated, inspired, and satisfied in general.
